Welcome to Westenberg! šŸ‘‹

Hi, I’m from England but have lived here in Singapore for the last 30 years. I’m a retired banker and corporate trainer, interested in personal development and the mind.

Greetings from Roanoke, VA. Enjoying conversation / discussion of struggles and challenges I face - how to remember, how best to write, how best to trace the tracks I’ve trod (?). In any event - many like-minded comments and quandaries, of which I love to be part of. Thank you one and all for sharing and for appreciating our gracious and astute host.

Hello, there. I’m Chad. Currently living near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA. I’m an improvisor on stage and I run ā€œApplied Improvā€ workshops in the office (when and where appropriate). I’m 53 so retirement is 7 to 12 years away but I’m really stuck. I don’t like what I’m doing now and where I’m doing it, and I’m not sure what to focus on for the next (last?) chapter of my career.

Reading and writing helps so Im focused on doing more of that this ā€œseasonā€. I’ve been following and a fan of Joan for a while, and the ā€œA Metabolic Workspaceā€ article pushed me over the edge to pay to join up.

Happy to be here. Looking forward to some great conversations.

Hi all, I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the community here.

I’ve enjoyed reading Joan’s thoughts since Tiny Spells in 2023, and I’m still a regular reader of Westenberg. It’s been such a comforting and inspiring part of my day, particularly with the state of the world currently, and I upgraded my membership to support the publication - how delighted I was then to discover there’s actually a Discourse forum.

I’m a digital accessibility professional, currently working in the higher education sector. I’m in a really good place now, but life hasn’t always been so kind and, after surviving trauma, loss and burnout, I’m just grateful to be here.

I’ve been online since the early 2000s (Bolt, Blogger, Wordpress), but I stopped creating over a decade ago as social media became the lens for my web experience. Last summer, I stepped away from Instagram just as I rediscovered the personal web / indie web, and it has been so good for the soul: I’m making crappy art and stop motion animations, working on my allotment, and tinkering with three self hosted websites (plus a fourth that will go online hopefully soon)

All this to say, I’m really pleased to find another space in which discover and engage with the thoughts of others.

Hi everyone,

I’m Steve Foerster. I don’t recall where I first encountered Joan’s work, but I realized that I kept telling people to read her articles, so eventually I figured I’d better pony up to provide the very modest level of support for full access. I didn’t actually realize that came with a Discourse site for Westenberg enthusiasts; that’s a nice bonus.

Careerwise I do a sort of mix of professional training and higher education. Some partners and I started a professional training center in Lagos, Nigeria to provide business and IT courses there. Our next phase is to offer degrees, we’re taking the necessary regulatory steps now to do so through a US-based subsidiary. I’ve been listening to Joan’s podcast about bootstrapping since we’re more or less doing that.

I’m also the bass section leader in my parish choir and occasionally write instrumental pieces and choral anthems. I have four kids, my wife has two, and my youngest and his girlfriend just had a baby, so that’s exciting.

Anything else, ask away, I suppose. In the meantime, I see that I now have a badge referring to me as basic.
