Objective

Enable Pro subscribers to access personalized RSS feeds for seamless content consumption in their preferred RSS readers.

Core Requirements

Authentication & Security

  • Generate unique, secure RSS feed URLs per Pro subscriber
  • Implement token-based authentication to prevent unauthorized access
  • Auto-revoke access upon subscription cancellation

Feed Generation

  • Create individualized RSS endpoints (e.g., /feed/pro/{unique-token})
  • Include full-text articles in feed items
  • Support standard RSS 2.0 format for maximum compatibility
  • Update feeds in real-time or near-real-time with new publications

User Management

  • Add “Your RSS Feed” section to Pro subscriber dashboard
  • Provide one-click feed URL generation and regeneration options
  • Display setup instructions for popular RSS readers (Feedly, Reeder, etc.)

Technical Infrastructure

  • Implement rate limiting to prevent abuse
  • Cache feed generation for performance
  • Monitor feed access patterns and usage analytics

Success Metrics

  • Feed adoption rate among Pro subscribers
  • Reader engagement via RSS vs. web
  • System performance and uptime

How would you measure this? I’m not aware of RSS tracking techniques and always assumed since I wasn’t clicking and actively visiting the website, a metric like that would show that “nobody uses RSS”.
