Original YouTube essays or reading blog posts?

Hey folks,

Curious to get your feedback.

Would you rather have original essays on YouTube, or have the essays I’ve written get turned into video essays?

The contrast I suppose is between more original content, vs more formats for existing ideas…

Whichever causes more original content to be generated. That being said, while I’m subscribed to the youtube channel and watch when I can, I prefer to read.

I’m with LeoNot, original stuff is priority. Also glad if you make it available so I won’t miss anything, like a feed/blog for everything (text, audio, video…).

I used to do both for my content because some people want to watch a video and some people want to read but man that burden became high. I agree with @LeoNot whatever gets more thoughtful content out.

I decided to go with what I like, writing. I may do YouTube videos again, but I stopped beating myself up over not doing them. I write weekly and that’s what I enjoy doing and have time for.

I think I’m going to try for a daily video over the next week, and have at least a couple of them be originals that aren’t anywhere else, with the rest being essays.
That cadence seems to make sense…

I agree with the comments, making us reflect is no small thing.

Format-wise, I prefer reading. It’s more immersive for me. I’ve noticed that sometimes while watching a video, I switch to another tab and lose the thread.

Also, my level of English doesn’t allow me to understand just by listening, and the auto-translator isn’t very good. With that added difficulty, I lean more toward reading.

I genuinely prefer reading too. But it’s constantly surprising too me how many folks love YouTube essays!

I like reading, but I also really love your YouTube channel. I find listening to you as the author, reading your own work in such a great way, very satisfying, and I have a lot of laughter because you’ve got some choice turns of phrases.

I prefer to read, but I know that talking through ideas helps organize thoughts which makes writing better, which makes reading more enjoyable.

I would prefer not to see new content only exist in video format.

I’ve actually dropped off from watching your YouTube videos when they pop up in my feed. I much prefer reading your content than watching / listening to them. So personally, I would prefer if all the videos were also posted as blog posts :slightly_smiling_face:

Perhaps make them different. Take the essay and truncate it for video, so the time would be shortened and the pace you read could be more relaxed. I’d also go with the sentiments that demonetized the YouTube channel and not worry about posting too regularly. You shouldn’t either burn out or drown us with material. If the content is good enough (and yours is), I like the model where people wait for and anticipate the next drop.
